Pre-recorded Webinar: The topic of trauma has been more commonly seen in the literature, research, and the media.  This presentation will introduce the topic of trauma.  Not only will the types of trauma that our clients may have experienced be explored, but how it affects our clients’ progress toward rehabilitation goals will be discussed.  Attendees will also be introduced to approaching trauma topics with clients who have intellectual disabilities.

  • This training counts as 1 CEU for UNT WISE

Upon completion of this course:

1. Attendees will learn and understand the implications of at least three types of trauma 

2. Attendees will state at least three ways in which trauma can affect their client population

3. Attendees will be able to describe the benefit of rehabilitation counselors understanding trauma topics

 

Presenter: Valerie Moreno-Tucker

Valerie has a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and a Master’s certificate in trauma-informed counseling.  She is a 3rd year Ph.D. student in Counselor Education & Supervision. Valerie worked for over 15 years in assessment and transition services, and for the past 5 years has focused her practice on clinical counseling.  In her practice as an LCPC, she sees a general client population as well as individuals with ASD, intellectual disabilities, and neurodiversity.  Aside from her clinical practice, Valerie is an instructor in the Rehabilitation Counseling department at Northern Illinois University.  She has given over 20 professional presentations on topics related to the provision of rehabilitation and clinical counseling services. Valerie volunteers in Mental Health First Aid and Service to the Armed Forces for the American Red Cross.
